The basement of the university medical research centre was reconfigured to provide a room for the MRI scanner. Further to this, offices and data analysis rooms were constructed. The services of this building were a high priority and they consumed half of the projects budget. As the MRI scanner was so large, lights and pipes had to be removed to make enough room for the piece of equipment to pass through and replaced again afterwards. All of the construction took place while the hospital remained fully functional.
